We’re hiring an Air Traffic Control Assistant to join our team at Liverpool John Lennon Airport for an 15-month temporary contract. This is your chance to contribute to the UK’s fastest, easiest, and friendliest airport and work alongside a dedicated team of professionals.
Temporary Contract from July 2026 - September 2027
What You’ll Do:
As an Air Traffic Control Assistant (ATCA), you’ll play a key role in ensuring smooth operations for aircraft in the sky and on the ground. Working closely with our Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCOs), you’ll help keep things running efficiently and safely. Key tasks include:
Flight plan : activation of flight plans with neighbouring ATC units
Weather Monitoring: Keeping ATCOs and pilots updated with the latest weather reports.
Flight Information: Ensuring ATCOs and pilots have accurate, up-to-date flight details.
Air Traffic Slot Monitoring: Ensuring flights depart in accordance to slots issued by Central Flow Management Unit CFMU
Flight Book-Outs: Liaising with based GA operators booking out local flights and land aways
Crisis Management: Assisting during emergencies, unexpected events, or unscheduled traffic.
You’ll often be the first point of contact for air traffic control, so politeness, ability to prioritise and multitask, and staying calm under pressure will be crucial. While you’ll be part of a collaborative team, your ability to take ownership and work independently when needed will be key to success.
Who We’re Looking For:
We want someone who is enthusiastic about air traffic control, keen to learn, and ready to take on additional responsibilities as the company expands. This role also offers the chance to assist with ATC and Safety Management tasks, helping you grow within the industry.
Shift Work: The role requires shift work across the 24-hour day.
Key Responsibilities: You’ll manage flight data, monitor weather, relay safety messages, and liaise with other airport departments.
Essential Skills: A strong command of Microsoft Office, a professional phone manner, and the ability to thrive in a busy environment are a must.
What You Need:
Educational Requirements: GCSE (or equivalent) with at least Grade C in Maths and English.
Experience: Previous experience within an Aviation setting with knowledge of Aircraft dispatching , ATC flight planning, ATC slot management, Airline Operations, Aircraft recognition, familiarisation of ICAO codes, and instrument approach procedures is desirable but not essential for this role
